KontrolWP scans a site's published content and checks every link and image from Cloudflare, not from your server. Each problem shows where it appears, with a button that opens that post's editor.

The site only hands over its posts. Cloudflare does all of the checking, so a scan adds almost no load to a small host.

The details
How it works, point by point.
What each result means
- Broken: a 404, 410 or any other 4xx error, or a domain that does not exist
- Unresponsive: a timeout, a failed connection or a 5xx error
- Couldn't check: a 401, 403 or 429, which usually means the other site blocks automated requests. These often work in a browser
- KontrolWP sends a HEAD request, retries with GET when a server refuses HEAD, follows redirects, and gives up after 10 seconds
Fixing links
- Edit opens the post's editor through Magic Login
- Remove link unwraps the link in every post it appears in. The link text stays, and WordPress keeps a revision you can restore. Do it per link, or for every broken one
- Buttons are left alone, since unwrapping would break the block, and images are not touched
- Check again re-reads just the posts a link was found in, so a link you fixed leaves the list without a full scan
- Ignore a link and it is never checked again
Scheduled scans
- Every site is checked automatically at midnight in your time zone, every 1, 3, 5 or 7 days (7 by default), or never
- Sites are queued two minutes apart, so they are checked one after another rather than all at once
- Scan now runs one whenever you want. A scan that makes no progress for 15 minutes shows as stopped
Exports and dashboards
- Download the current view as CSV or Excel. Whatever filter or tab you have open is what you get
- Stat cards show links checked, posts and pages, broken and unresponsive counts
- The Overview shows broken links across all your sites
Leave a site out
- Turn off broken link checks in a site's settings. Its links are cleared, scheduled scans skip it and its tab says detection is off
- Turn it back on and the tab is ready to scan again
Good to know
- Every public post type except media is scanned. A site keeps at most 5,000 addresses.
- Needs KontrolWP Connect 0.9.0 or later. Check again needs 0.9.2 and Remove link needs 0.9.3.
